Windows 10 Build 14361 - More Fixes and a Surprise

On June 8, Microsoft release Windows 10 build 14361 for both PC and Mobile to Fast Ring Insiders.

Installation was easy and straight forward across my standard portfolio of devices, PC, Laptop, Tablet and Phone.

The big focus of 14361 was continued fixes based on issues collected by Insiders - about 25 or so each for PC and Mobile. But there was a big new surprise on the PC side.  Additionally a very large collection of apps were updated.  On my PC is was over 30, so alll MSN, Groove, Movies, People, Mail, Calendar, Maps, you name it.  So similar to the core OS itself, MS is pushing to get ready for Anniversary release.

That surprise was the native support for Docker with Hyper-V containers that would allow you to build, ship and run containers based on the Windows Server 2016 Nano Server Preview.  So while this is a very enterprise focused feature it certainly shows MS's commitment to containers.  This opens up a new potential for enterprises wanting to provide micro services at a workstation level and to potential speed up development efforts.

In addition to the fixes there were additional features such as support for the popular Lastpass extension to Edge, Ink, Setting, Icons and Networking Quick Actions.

MS also announced a June "Bug Bash" event coming soon, so I expect another Build quickly.  As we are just 7 weeks from the Anniversary date.

On the PC, Laptop, Tablet side - I've experienced good performance and stability.  Yes there are some annoyances with specific apps.  For example the new Messaging Everywhere feature does not sync read/unread well across multiple devices.  So for example if you get a text on your phone and reply to it it often still shows up on another device as unread.

Similarly with Outlook on Mobile, it now shows a count on unread messages. But it's total messaging not specific to any one account and it does not update properly.  My personal preference it to keep my mail accounts separated and liked the capability back in Windows phone 8 where it showed how many unreads for each account.

Performance and battery life on my phone with 14361 seem to good so far, so the issues that occurred back with 14342 seem to have been corrected.

The ink features seem to work well on my tablet, but the tablet itself seems to be slow to recognize the OEM Dell pen.  This may be a hardware issue more than software.

Overall 14361 continues to show improvement of the Redstone branch, let' see what the next few build bring us.
