Windows 10 Mobile Build 14371 - More fixes - but does it matter

On June 21, MS released Windows 10 Mobile build 14371 to Fast Ring Insiders. Just 4 days and 4 builds after 14367 - this build contains another batch of 20+ fixes as well as an update to the MS Wallet app that supports NFC Tap-to-Pay.

14371 downloaded & prepared fine on my Lumia 735 - but did hang up at reboot.  Once past that situation the update installed and worked fine.

Looking at the list of fixes - I had experienced none of the problems listed - so difficult to validate if any of them worked.

But there are still some basic functions that are struggling.  For example clipboard.  I attempted to clip a UPS tracking number out of an email and paste into Cortana and Edge to see tracking status.  In both cases it failed.

Another was the Live tile updates for Mail & Calendar.  Even though all emails in all accounts where marked as read - the tile still showed 11 unread.   When a calendar item was removed - it still showed a reminder for that meeting on the live tile - but did not show it on the Lock screen.

To me these are basic blocking and tackling issues that should have been long corrected.

The Wallet app is another example of how far behind MS is in Mobile.  While the new 2.0 version does support NFC - it only does so on the 950/650/550 series. Additionally there are only 4 banks supported - BofA and three small regionals.
In comparison Apple recently announced the addition of some 70 financial institutions to their already large list of over 200.

On the good news side - apps that were not working correctly across the last several builds are working correctly.  For me namely that was FitBit.  You know properly see the device in Bluetooth and sync over mobile works fine.

Similarly the Yammer app - which was failing MFA via Azure is know working correctly.

So while Windows 10 Mobile continues to move forward towards the Anniversary release in late July and the fixes are flowing - there are still some basic issues that need to be addressed.

So is Windows 10 Mobile better than 8.1 ?  in my opinion absolutely yes.  Just like with PCs - you're going to get nice UI improvements and the latest versions of the apps - which are much improved.  Performance and stability overall is good.

As I've mentioned in previous posts - don't hold your breath waiting for the carrier updates - you'll never get there.   If you want to get to Windows 10 Mobile and your device supports it - join the Insider program and then configure your phone for either Production Preview or Fast Ring updates and get

Will Windows 10 Mobile change MS's market perception or position ? - no.   That score has already been settled.  The interest now will be how well the HP Elite X3 and Acer Liquid Jade Primo sell - since they will really be the only new platforms available for the forseeable future.
