Windows 10 Build 16237 - Fall Creators Update Feature Complete

On July 7, MS released Windows 10 build 16237 to Fast Ring Insiders.

So couple of early points - in previous posts I had called out that the pace of builds had slowed - but it appears we are back on to a weekly schedule.

Additionally with this weeks announcement that two features shown at Build - namely Timeline and Cloud Clipboard will not make the Fall Creators Update release - I am effectively considering this branch to be feature complete.

With that mindset - 16237 is all about polishing.  So from Edge, to Shell to People, Live Tiles, Input Methods, Hyper-V, Task Manager and about 30 other fixes - the focus has shifted to polish the current feature sets in preparation for September release.

Sure it's only July and we may get a surprise or two - but honestly I don't think so.  There is another Bug Bash coming up from Jul 14 - 21.

If MS stays true to it's historical September releases - I expect production release about Sept 20.  So that means even at a release a week - there are maybe 9 or 10 more build releases left.

The 16237 update installed well across all platforms - and yes still having to perform post install manual re-installs of Cisco AnyConnect and waiting for HP specific hardware updates post update - which forces multiple post install reboots.   Download speeds for the updates were very good - but the overall install end-to-end is still an hour+.

General usability seems good and performance is crisp.  I did experience issues with the Mail app and syncing properly with gmail.

It was nice to see the return of Live Tiles to some apps.  For me Live Tiles is one of the nice features of the Modern Windows UI and for some time now many native apps had lost that ability - so it was nice to see it start to return.

As I've stated many times - many of the features that I see MS focusing on are really Surface  and 2:1 oriented - so if you don't happen to have a PC / Laptop that has Touch / Ink capabilities - your not going to have a dramatically different experience with the Fall Creators Update.

We'll see what next week brings..
