Windows 10 Mobile Build 14291 - Redstone for Legacy Devices

On Mar 24 - a tweet from Gabe Aul mentioned that Windows 10 Mobile build 14291 was made available to those legacy devices recently added to the Redstone compatibility list.

One of my 3 Windows Mobile devices only one met that criteria - a Lumia 735 - an RM-1039 variant.  Unfortunate my 2 Lumia 635 RM-975s will have to stop @ 10586.164 as they have not made the list.

If you have one of the devices listed below - you can switch back to Insider Fast Ring and get 14291..

Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, MCJ Madosma Q501.

The update download and installed with no issues.

It is shame that many other legacy devices will never see this code because almost immediately I noticed a much smoother running phone with apps that loaded quicker and the whole overall feel with 14291 seems more stable than the 10586 branch.

I also noticed increased stability with bluetooth and WiFi connections versus 10586.164.

Bottom line is that 14291 is a superior build to the production release of Windows 10 for legacy devices.

If you have an interest in running Windows 10 on your legacy device and it's one of those mentioned above - I recommend not waiting for the Production 10586.164 release but rather switch to Fast Ring and get this build.

The new build combined with recent updates to apps like camera and maps have improved the overall experience.

There are a few things that aren't working.   One of them is the Fitbit app.  my phone never see's the device and therefore the device cannot sync with my phone.   The only place I have FitBit working is with my Windows 10 desktop and the BT dongle they provide.

Additionally I still see some blank icons in the all Apps menu for Groove and Weather.  They did finally remove the Insider Hub app and replaced it with the new Feedback Hub app.

Bottom line - if your a Windows 10 Mobile enthusiast and have a device on the list - get to Redstone.  10586.164 is a waste of time.
