MS Ignite Announcements for Windows 10 - Was Redstone II toned back ?

Microsoft held it's Ignite Conference this year in Atlanta the last week of September.

Typically MS uses conferences like Ignite and Build to review current offerings as well as discuss upcoming capabilities.

While there was some exciting stuff around Xamarin and Azure, the Windows 10 announcements in my opinion were pretty weak.

So here they are...

The first was increased capabilities around Ink, so easier access from a pen click, improved handwriting recognition in sticky notes and then integration with Cortana and OneNote.   So the demo that was shown used 4 sticky notes with varying content from Flight numbers to $MSFT.   By clicking on them - the notes were changed from handwritten to the flight info and a calendar entry, or to a stock quote for Microsoft.

While pretty cool, the question to me becomes how many of the 400M Windows 10 machines out there actually have pen support ?  And secondly would this new capability be a catalyst to purchase new PCs with pen support ?

Another demo showed PowerBI integration into Outlook.   So the ability to take a statistical look at your email volume content, calendar, etc.   So again kind of cool, but how many folks are actually going to use that capability ?

Next was Edge improvements especially around markup and Cortana integration.  Again interesting features, but the room was not wowing over it.

The most interesting demo used the Surface Meeting Room and did improve upon the overall usability of the device allowing good collaborative work and cool things, like sending everyone in the meeting all the notes/content with a simple touch.

Outside of a small discussion of Continuum improvements around multiple window support and a slide restating MS's commitment to Windows 10 Mobile, there was no other announcements around Surface phone or anything else for that matter.

Bottom line is not much came out of Ignite for Windows 10.  The focus did seem to be around trying to continue momentum in deployment, especially at the corporate end, but other than that, I'm not seeing any earth shattering changes for Windows 10 in Redstone 2.
