Windows 10 Build 14955 - A lot of fixes

Tuesday Oct 25, MS released Windows 10 Redstone 2 Branch build 14955.  This build was for both PCs and Mobile.

Following the challenges of the previous release 14951 around distribution and updating, the good news is 14955 downloaded and installed correctly on all my PC and Mobile devices.  So no pain there.

The build itself did contain new versions of the Mail & Calendar apps which added some small features:

  • You can now open email messages in a new window.
  • You can now use Quick Actions directly from new email notifications.
  • Get someone’s attention with @mentions. Type the @ symbol anywhere in the body of your email and start typing to pick the person you want to address.
But the primary focus was fixes.   Some 7 for Mobile and 16 for PC that were documented in the announcement.

While not all the fixes applied to my devices, many quelled a lot of the noise that came back through the Feedback Hub after 14951.

14955 does feel and appear to be more responsive that previous Redstone 2 builds both on my legacy Lumia 735 and Dell Venue Pro tablet.

Next week will be the first Bug Bash cycle for Redstone 2.  So we'll see what new features and capabilities get announced at the MS Fall event tomorrow and what shows up in builds next week that MS wants the Insiders to focus on.

So far Redstone 2 has not been a very dramatic update at all and considering that we are some 5 months away from release, I'm still waiting to see more retirement of legacy UI and and functions as we move towards a complete settings app.
